I love food!

And I want to share that love with people.  I hate to hear people say, “I can’t cook” or “I don’t have time”.  I think that once people realize how much fun and relaxing picking recipes, trying them, and shopping for them can be they will have a different opinion of what “cooking” is!  It is not something to dread but to look forward to at the end of the day.

During the past four years I have been the catering and programs person for the River Market, located in the heart of downtown Little Rock’s blossoming arts and entertainment district.  When a local morning show on KATV asked me to come on air and do a live cooking segment I was terrified, but my boss Shannon Light said I had to do it. Apparently that was part of my job description I had missed!

After doing monthly segments for the Good Morning Arkansas, I was approached by the City of Little Rock’s government access channel to shoot a 30-minute cooking show for their station.  I have been shooting that show for two years now and also include friends and family as guests with me from time to time.

In 2004, thanks to a generous donation by Bill and Margaret Clark, we built a wonderful demonstration kitchen inside the Market Hall.   I currently teach cooking demos using products from the inside vendors and from the Farmers’ Market located right outside on Tuesdays and Saturdays from May through October.  When I do my demonstrations, my goal is to teach people how to shop the market for all of their grocery needs by creating original recipes featuring market products.

When I’m in Margaret’s Kitchen I answer cooking questions, teach cooking techniques and help shoppers with menu ideas using the vast array of fresh, exotic, and local ingredients they can find here at the market. I help to enlighten shoppers that the River Market is not just a place to pick up a quick lunch, but a convenient shopping experience where they can buy farm-fresh organic Arkansas produce, meat, cheeses, bread and anything they would need for a delicious and satisfying breakfast, lunch or dinner.  My ultimate goal is to inspire all market visitors to take the original recipe I have created, shop the market, and return to the comforts of their home to make a truly fantastic meal!
