Sculpture garden expansion opens

On Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, city leaders, dignitaries and the public gathered to celebrate the dedication of the 5,600-square-foot expansion of the Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden in Riverfront Park and to officially kick off Little Rock’s Arts and Culture Month.

Funded by the Vogel Schwartz foundation in 2009, the garden has grown to a collection of 66 pieces by 48 artists, and is a beautiful place that residents and visitors enjoy.

Under the leadership of  Dr. Dean Kumpuris, the city boasts a total collection of more than 115 pieces – including those in the garden –  that are spread throughout the park and around the city.

The collection is valued at approximately $4 million dollars, and has been made possible by a combination of gifts from families, foundations and public funds, as well as Sculpture at the River Market Inc., a nonprofit organization which has hosted annual sculpture competitions and purchases art to donate to the city.
