If you haven’t yet visited this year’s Little Rock Farmers’ Market, what are you waiting for? Seriously, summer never tasted so good. Well, technically it’s not summer yet but it’s full on freshness mode every Saturday through September.
Housed in the River Market’s open-air pavilions along the Arkansas River banks, the state’s oldest and largest farmers market hosts a wide variety of farm-fresh goodness from farms throughout the state and region. Strawberries? Check. Herbs? Check. Purple hull peas? Check. Local Meats? You get the idea. In addition to fresh produce market-goers can peruse craft vendors selling everything from jewelry to handmade lotions and soaps.
Second Saturdays are really amped up with lots of special treats. The ‘Lil Farmers Club allows kids to learn where food comes from, and teaches them how to grow new foods. Rock City Rescue has an Adopt Don’t Shop event. The very popular Gourmet Chef Series features University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management students sponsoring cooking demonstrations. And, those are worth watching — and taste testing. Other partners include Little Rock Master Gardeners and Central Arkansas Library System (CALS).
