The vibes are back

Posted on September 5, 2018

What’s not to love about local jazz music? The bi-annual Jazz in the Park concert series is back Wednesdays in September. Little Rock has a rich musical heritage that is being carried on by some very talented artists. It’s the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (LRCVB) fourth year to partner with Art Porter Music Education, Inc. (APME), a local organization that provides scholarships to Arkansas music students who want to further their education while promoting community service and volunteer initiatives.

Mark your calendar to attend these fun events in Riverfront Park along the Arkansas River. It’s a great way to end each Wednesday:

9/5 – TwiceSax

Instrumental jazz / funk / blues project Twicesax came together in 2009 and is headed up by Dave Williams II and Brandon Dorris, brothers-in-law. The group performs a mix of originals and artfully arranged covers as they draw from band members’ influences of jazz, rock, bluegrass, funk and blues creating a lively and complex sound that gets into listeners’ heads and bones and makes them want to get up and move.

9/12 – Tawanna Campbell

Tawanna Campbell is a powerhouse vocalist who possesses an amazing stage presence and a style all her own. Tawanna has been a beacon, leading the way for Arkansas’ growing music scene, and is an all-encompassing performer whose musical acumen is eclectic and dynamic.

9/19 -  The Dizzy 7

The Dizzy 7 plays music that ranges from Motown to Big Band, Latin to Dixie. It features a full rhythm section, a three-piece horn section led by Casey Huie and Craig Wilson’s signature vocals.

9/26 – The Rodney Block Collective

Rodney Block performs a unique blend of traditional jazz, gospel, hip-hop, bebop, funk and soul that always entertains. On the final night of Jazz in the Park 2018, Rodney performs with the Collective, one of his many groups and has a big surprise in store for all in attendance.
