Jazz in the Park celebrates its seventh season

Posted on March 28, 2019

2019 welcomes the seventh season of Jazz in the Park!  Developed by the Little Rock River Market and sponsored by the Little Rock Convention & Visitors Bureau, this Wednesday night happy hour event has grown from a smattering of jazz enthusiasts, who gathered in Riverfront Park’s History Pavilion, into a staple of downtown Little Rock and River Market District life.

Crowds now range from 500 to 1,000 each week and include a wide range of Little Rock’s residents and visitors from young families who take advantage of the adjacent playground to occupy the kids while they enjoy a little adult time, to retirees, singles, overnight guests from downtown hotels and everyone between. Jazz in the Park is also pet friendly.

Showcasing a variety of local musicians, made up of mostly jazz artists but with the occasional R&B or soul performance, Jazz in the Park keeps its emphasis on local talent, including its partnership with Art Porter Music Education. For the past five years Jazz in the Park has worked with APME after discovering the group’s history, mission and volunteers to be the perfect fit to serve as the event’s non-profit partner.  The event is free to attend, but beverage sales help to cover the costs of the bands as well as provide an annual donation to APME’s scholarship fund.

In an effort to take advantage of the first bits of spring and fall, this event is held on Wednesday Nights in April & September from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the History Pavilion in Riverfront Park. Situated on the banks of the Arkansas River in downtown Little Rock’s River Market District, this venue is just perfect.  With the calming view and cool breeze coming off the river, convenient parking and easy access this is a must attend event.  Stick around at sunset to take in the “River Lights in the Rock” on the Main Street, Junction and Clinton Presidential Park Bridges.
