Where to carb load in Little Rock

Posted on May 8, 2019

Our hometown hosts the Little Rock Marathon the weekend of March 2 and 3. This year’s theme is “A Race Odyssey” and yes, you’ll still be earning the larger-than-life, super-famous Little Rock Marathon medals.

One of the best parts of the long run is the carb loading the night before. And Little Rock has some great places to do just that.

Are you staying downtown? There are a handful of dining options that would be the perfect warmup to the race. Traditional Italian eateries and pasta palaces like Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro, Ciao Italian and Bruno’s Little Italy are popular choices. But if you prefer to fuel-up with good old-fashioned pizza, make sure to try Iriana’s Pizza or Damgoode Pies Brewhouse. And take it from us, if you go to Damgoode, you’ll want to try the stuffy. It’s the double crust pie that will remind you of Chicago.

Another downtown option with a different flavor is Three Fold Noodles + Dumpling Co. Their handmade noodles and dumplings are super tasty and can be spiced up as much as you can handle.  Did we mention they offer vegetarian and vegan-friendly options too?

Out in the Hillcrest/Heights/West Little Rock areas, there are local eateries that can help you get ready to run. Café Prego, The Pizzeria and Zaza Fine Salad & Wood Oven Pizza Company all have good choices for fuel. Graffitti’s is another local favorite worth visiting.  All are just a short drive from downtown, so why not get out and see some of the city.

Finally, another favorite of the locals is Larry’s Pizza. It’s an all-you-can eat pizza joint with multiple locations. They’ve got some fun spins on traditional pizza including the Asian chicken pizza and the Club pizza. Dessert pizza is also available.

If you want to talk to a local before setting out and about in Little Rock, stop by and visit our booth at the race expo inside the Statehouse Convention Center when you pick up your packet. A few of us will be there to answer any questions you may have and we’re always up for recommending something to eat!

Have a great race!
