There’s a special day for those who love heart-warming stories, action-packed fantasies and tremendously tall tales—a special day for those who love curling up on the couch and delving into a real page-turner. National Book Lovers Day on August 9 channels all the excitement bibliophiles feel about books into a day of indulgence, and the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) has all the right materials to help you celebrate in style—all for free with your library card.
It doesn't matter if you favor classic print, ebooks, or audiobooks. It's all book love, and it's all here at CALS: any genre, any style, for any age. Books help us understand who we are and who we aspire to be, and libraries offer opportunities for us to share stories and build a sense of community.
A serendipitous fact: National Book Lovers Day is celebrated during Romance Awareness Month. So, for those who are in love with the idea of love and enjoy reading about it, CALS librarians in our Collection Development department have suggested a few titles that are available in the library’s print and digital collections:
- A New Leash on Love: A Rescue Me Novel by Debbie Burns
- A Nantucket Wedding by Nancy Thayer
- Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon
- The Loving Daylights by Lynsay Sands
- The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon
- The Winston Brothers Series by Penny Reid
- The Summer Wives by Beatriz Williams
For enthusiasts of the written word, seekers of classic tales, romantics, and everything in between, show your book love by exploring one of the library's 14 branches or by browsing the library's collection at CALS.org
