How to Celebrate the 300th Anniversary of La Petite Roche

April marks the 300th anniversary of French explorer Jean-Baptiste Benard de la Harpe’s discovery of La Petite Roche, or the little rock, that gave the Little Rock region its name.  The celebration is year-long, but it kicks off with free, family- friendly events that highlight the importance of this historic milestone. Museum of Discovery : In honor of the 300th anniversary of the discovery of La Petite Roche, the MOD will be doing a boat building and design activity in the PPG STEAM Studio (April 6-12), while Wiggle Worms (for kids 6 and younger and their families) will have a geology activity related to the “Little Rock” Tuesday (April 5), Thursday (April 7), and Saturday (April 9).   •  Commemoration and Dedication Ceremony (10-11am)

  • Family Fair (11am-5pm) with kids’ activities, bounce houses, a rock- climbing wall, a spinning ride and a swinging pirate ship. There will also be food trucks and cultural offerings from the Early Arkansaw Reenactors Association and Native American organizations, plus hands-on activities at the Museum of Discovery (11am-5pm)
